The book's text is not searchable. I wish they'd warn customers about that before making the purchase. It's the only reason I bought the Confessions.

A fine mystery with embedded mm romance story. The interesting characters, almost anti-heros, in complex set of events that lead them closer to each other. Drake is ex-cop and ex-con, barely lifting his head again after an unexpectedly early release from prison. Flare is trying to right his own career, as he works undercover to gain Darke's trust. The two are caught up in a murder mystery in a rural tourist trap town....and their mutual attraction grows while the lies and deceptions continue.Highly recommend, skilled writing and smooth dialogue, just the occasional missing word or typo. Looking forward to the next book: a must read.Given their history, particularly Darke's, you have to be willing to simply enjoy some fairly rapid fall-in-love romantic tropes mixed in with murder mystery. The book alternates first person point of view between the MCs, which helps the reader know what the characters are really thinking and feeling. This is good, because there is a lot of double-dealing going on.A couple of lines made me laugh and chuckle, but not a silly book or a lot of snark. Some intimate mm sex scenes, consistent with the story and not overwhelming. Likable MCs, looking forward to knowing them better. Although we get the first person point of view, we get little of their thoughts and feels beyond the case and each other. Darke was a good cop who fell in love with a con man. He didn't participate in the crime, but he did participate in the cover-up. You know what they say about the cover-up. Fresh out of jail, he heads to an over-the-top gay wedding resort town. His only prospect is another ex-con who wanted to bake cupcakes. After all, his lover is long gone and he doesn't know where the 30+ million dollars is.The FBI thinks Darke knows where the money is and is biding his time before joining the thief. They send Parker after him.I like both Darke and Parker. Their chemistry was great. The mystery is front and center and the danger at the climax is intriguing. What takes the cake (pun intended) is the wedding resort town, which is incredibly kitschy with residents who are making a buck on the legalization of gay marriage.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would, and am going to read book two. What worked for me was that Darke and Flare couldn’t stop themselves from investigating what was happening in Angel Wing, even if it wasn’t necessarily in their best interests. The way they approached things was compelling, and I couldn’t help but get swept along for the ride. And although they kept secrets from each other, their relationship felt honest, with each man trying to protect the other whenever possible. It was definitely not your usual love story, but it felt like the right one for them.

Strong believable characters (albeit with weird names, LOL) in an interesting s/l. Don't expect the beginning mystery bton be the one solved here, this will be a trilogy. HFN. since the story continues in books 2 & 3 (not yet published. Hot, steamy scenes, versatility a +

I loved the chemistry between the two MC's. It had an interesting plot, and kept the reader entertained. Looking forward to the next book.

👍👍👬 🔍I wanted to put this murder mystery/romance down but couldn't until I reached the end! The MCs were great together, the story was well-written, fast-paced and flowed well, told in the alternating points of view of the main characters, and the suspense just kept building as ex-cop/ex-con Darke tries to rebuild his life after early release from prison and gets sucked into a small Arkansas town's deadly secrets. Undercover FBI agent Flare Greene finds his attraction to Darke is messing with his assignment and both men have to fight local law enforcement prejudice against outsiders.Of the two heroes, Darke was my favorite. Despite his past mistakes and the betrayal he's experienced, he seems so ready to put others first and try to make a positive difference, even when it comes to keeping the town's drunks from getting behind the wheel!The author provides some steam 🔥along with a really riveting plot. Comes equipped with a definite solution to the crime and a HFN for Darke and Greene.
