I was, at one time, an advanced Access user, but that was a few years and versions ago. Had to get back into it and up to speed quickly for my job, but needed more help than old knowledge and Google could supply yet still didn't need to be treated like a beginner either. This book is laid out perfectly. I can look up and jump directly to what I need, and I have yet to find an issue that isn't covered in plain, understandable language that gets my problem taken care of on the first try. Also love the very down-to-earth tips/tricks/hints/notes/warnings. Saved me a ton of headaches I would regret later in my setups.

This book is extremely thorough and very well laid out in a logical and step-by-step manner. The author doesn't miss a thing. All the explanations are thorough and easy to understand. Often, explanations are repeated when necessary, as if the author knows the questions that are popping in to your head as you work through the book. I never have to decipher the author's explanations, as often happens with other such books. I recommend going through this book from beginning to end, taking your time as you follow the steps and do your own experimentation and practice. I read every note, tip, warning, sidebar and figure. Everything is helpful. I already had a fairly good knowledge of Access, but wanted to fill in all the holes and thoroughly learn and review the application. This book has served that purpose perfectly. I'm very impressed.

I hadn't created an Access database for many years (10?) so this version was quite a bit different than I was used to. The guide helped me through the learning curve, and I had a workable database in short order. The book was well worth my investment to shorten the development process.

I have a nack for learning computer programs and decided I wanted to master Excel. I purchased this book and it has been the best decision of my young professional life.The text was very easy to read. It does a great job of explaining complicated issues and providing examples and practical applications.After having read the entire book I don't remember everything, but I have a good understanding of what Excel can do and know where I can find more information about how to accomplish it.I would highly suggest this book to anyone who works with spreadsheets. Chances are you can save a lot of time and headaches, and also become the star of your department with the knowledge you can gain from this book. You should read the parts you are familiar with to gain additional tricks you have skipped over. You should also read the parts you are not familiar with as they are areas you could be taking advantage of or may need to take advantage of at a later date.

One can say having repeated segments in each chapter is handy.. however I view it as superfluous and a waste of paper. My other major issue with the book is that it has mistakes in the case file exercises that if you don't catch them (or worse if you catch them & point it out to your prof) you may end up getting to re-submit your homework. I finally gave up telling the prof of the book errors and just did my homework. It's easier that way.I can't suggest you don't get the book as obviously you'd be using it as required text. I would suggest you read through your case files a couple times before actually DOING the exercises, and use the power of the internet for video tutorials if you are learning online.

Have been an Access user for many years (20+) but still have those "how did I do????" moments. This book helps because it starts at Step 1. Easy to read, yet concise. The index at the back is wonderful because I can go right to my specific concern. Well worth the price.

To whom it may concern--Access is not an easy program to digest--one has to want to learn how--Microsoft even has special technicians within the Office 2010 department that handle only ACCESS--so how easy do you think it is? This book is worth every penny; notwithstanding; I have yet to find any book in the Missing manual series that is not much better than any alternative offered by any other publisher. Not to purchase this book is being grossly unjust to yourself! The book has larger than normal fonts--use your glasses anyway--it is well-written and well-indexed. I haven't actually used this book yet but I have the 2007 version and it was awesome. The book is presented in a very readable format: kind of entertaining but serious. It tells you step-by-step how to do things but also explains what is going on behind the scenes so to speak.There are tutorials that start out small and slowly expand so this makes a great book for someone who knows little about creating a relational database. It doesn't start out confusing the living bejeesus out of the novice but it still offers a lot more information than the average user would probably learn just by using the program. There are a lot of very useful tips and tricks that will improve your database creation skills. Overall I find that these missing manuals do an awesome job of developing skills. You can really get the equivalent of a 16-week college course out of one of these books.

About the Author

Ralph Martin (1925-2013) was a distinguished New Testament scholar and a significant figure in the post-World War 2 resurgence of British evangelical scholarship. Born in Anfield, Liverpool, England, his early education was interrupted in 1939 by the war, and he was conscripted to work in the coal mines of Lancashire. After the war he pursued ministerial training at Manchester Baptist College and in 1949 earned his B.A. at the University of Manchester. In 1963 he completed his Ph.D. at King?s College, University of London. In 1969 Martin joined the faculty of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, where he would serve as professor of New Testament from 1969 to 1988, and director of the graduate studies program beginning in 1979. He resumed his teaching there in 1995 as Distinguished Scholar in Residence. Throughout his academic career he stayed involved in preaching, teaching laypeople and other pastoral ministry. He was the author of numerous studies and commentaries on the New Testament, including Worship in the Early Church, the volume on Philippians in The Tyndale New Testament Commentary series, and 2 Corinthians and James in the Word Biblical Commentary, for which he also served as New Testament editor.

Unfortunate that Hacker tried to use mathematics in his criticism of the current mathematics curriculum, because his math errors will distract mathematicians and other "STEM" practitioners from some basic truths.For example:In March of 2008, the National Mathematics Advisory Panel presented its Final Report to the President of the United States and the Secretary of Education:"This Panel, diverse in experience, expertise, and philosophy, agrees broadly that the delivery system in mathematics education -- the system that translates mathematical knowledge into value and ability for the next generation -- is broken and must be fixed."Since that time the "Common Core" math standards have replaced the various state standards that were for the most part derived from standards developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).However, an original goal of the NCTM, that all students should have the opportunity to learn mathematics, became "students will be required to learn mathematics." This requirement works for some students and punishes others. Many of the students who succesfully pass through the school maths gateway will quickly forget the topics they studied. In some cases, it's just as well, since the "mathematics" they are taught will be a collection of manipulative tricks that avoid real math understanding -- like the FOIL pseudo-algorithm for avoiding the binomial theorem.Hacker points out the "myths" and "delusions" that keep our present broken system in place. THE MATH MYTH and Other STEM Delusions presents a detailed argument for alternatives to Algebra as a required school subject for all students. In its place, Hacker suggests a course in "Numeracy" he has taught in the Mathematics Department at Queens College, New York. The topics in his course include data analysis related to political representation, finding numerical patterns that indicate fraud in income tax returns, patterns of consumer purchasing, and other examples of quantitative reasoning. He even shows how to approximate a value for the mathematical constant Pi, using basic arithmetic.Hacker is not "anti-math," and he describes mathematics as a subject of "inherent beauty." However, he does not see this beauty being communicated to the many frustrated students who would like to pursue careers that do not require math. Hacker does not blame math teachers for the unreasonable pressure put on students to grasp the abstractions of what he calls "academic math." Instead, he faults an elite group of experts -- Hacker calls them "the Mandarins" -- who advise on local and national educational policy, including the "Common Core" state standar. The data Hacker cites include high failure rates on school exit exams, statewide proficiency test results, community college remedial math class statistics, and other measures. Although people who have been successful in math class cite their own progress as anecdotal evidence, Hacker claims the facts show that algebra, far from being a pipeline to success, is "...a barrier [that] ends up suppressing opportunities, stifling creativity, and denying society a wealth of varied talents."Naturally, advocates of required STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education will disagree and point out that Hacker's background is in political science, not mathematics. But this description of school math from a different viewpoint can help readers determine whether we are making educational decisions based on facts or myths. As a math teacher myself, I have become very concerned about how much is being required of students at lower and lower grades. What was once a requirement of a seventh grader is now required of a fourth grade student. This book exposes many of the fallacies of our current educational system as it applies to the study of mathematics. I would like to see this book as required reading for all educators, especially those who are responsible for setting statewide curriculum requirements and college entrance requirements.

The Math Myth: And Other STEM Delusions is a must read that challenges almost all of America’s present educational shibboleths: the push for universal standards that stress STEM-ready education in high schools, especially the emphasis on the requirement, in the name of rigor, that all students achieve some degree of abstract mathematics proficiency. Along the way, using data, he excoriates the Common Core (especially its mathematics component) and the overuse of standardized tests to judge both student competency and teacher effectiveness. It was an eye-opener for me, and I recommend it to anyone who has even the slightest degree of interest in education and educational policy.His primary point is that abstract mathematics – proving of theorems in geometry or factoring polynomials in algebra or doing calculus integrals – does not teach skills that most students need. While that fraction of students who do go on into science or advanced engineering might need that level of mathematics, most students, even those who go into technical fields, do not. Instead, the mathematics requirement presently in place in the Common Core functions as an institutional barrier that is, to a great extent, the reason that many students fail to complete high school, or cannot into college, or, given the math requirements at colleges, fail to complete their degrees. It is, in his view, a costly disaster for our society, wasting human capital on an exorbitant scale.Hacker is a social scientist, not a mathematician, and he uses numbers and data and statistics professionally, but he argues that it is actually bad for our society to require abstract mathematical competency of all students – most of whom will never use an iota of it again.One of the more intriguing bits is his demonstration that the SAT and ACT standardized tests (a boon for the companies that supply them) actually discriminate by gender, arguing that the emphasis on speed in the math components of these exams favors males. I am not yet in a position to either accept or reject his argument, but it merits more than a cursory glance. It has, at least, the ring of plausibility.He argues that the national policies toward mathematics education are largely set by what he calls the ‘mandarins,’ a collection of mathematicians (not mathematics teachers), supported by the political punch of slogans like STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and by large corporations that want to hire STEM-ready graduates, even though they represent only a small fraction of all students.I have long agreed that the current emphasis on high school calculus is misplaced. My preference has been for students to learn statistics. But even here, I got a wake-up call. Hacker argues that the ‘mandarins’ of statistics make the typical statistics course into the same kind of abstract and theoretical enterprise that the calculus people do. Dr. Rotella, through his years of experience with exceptional people, has been able to clearly identify specific characteristics that cause that exceptionality to express. He furthers the idea that "talent" in the conventional sense isn't an inherent gift, and that it is much more the working habits and attitudes of exceptional people that sets them apart. Being exceptional can be taught and learned. He also points out that the cost of exceptionality may not be a price that everyone wants to pay. Dr. Rotella's book is one-of-a-kind and is required reading for those who deal with (or are) standouts in any field.

I was reading this book on a flight to San Francisco & was confused when another passenger handed me some tissue? Only then did I realize tears were streaming uncontrollably down my face. No book has ever caused me to shed a tear, but somehow Rotella had struck a chord that left me publicly sobbing on an airplane of all places! I felt Rotella had written a story of my own life and it was being presented back to me in a way I could understand. Rotella encourages us all to seek our God given abilities / gifts, explore them, and exploit them to their highest levels! For the individual that does not realize their talents, this read may be difficult to comprehend. However, for the individual that understands God has blessed them with something special, in whatever area(s) of life, this book is a must read!!!!! Best book I've read to date!

Not as good as Rob's previous book "The 15th Club". This one is more for Golf Pros, not amateurs or golfers that play for fun and bit of healthy competition. Some points good but overall not a book you would want to read again. The 15th Club is much much better- something that every golfer can relate to.

Rotella is not a "sports psychologist." He was a college teacher and worked with Davis Love and a few others in the 80's. Made his reputation on them and wrote a few books. Very simplistic viewpoints on​ performance.

Anything Bob Rotella writes becomes a masterpiece of art. And this book is no different. They way he breaks down the mind of athletes really intrigues me. And to be able to transfer those though processes over to mine has been a great learning curve. This book is strongly recommended.

As a fan of both golf and self help, this book is an interesting and useful read. There are so many interesting stories about professional athletes and the way the author ties in the self help concepts, its good stuff. Although the book probably could have been 25% shorter, it keeps you interested in the concepts.

Bought this for my football coaching husband and he absolutely loves it. Can't put it down. Sometimes I catch him shaking his head up and down in agreement with what's written. Suggested for anyone who wants a lesson on the mind of very successful people.

Quite inspirational, filled with anecdotes and examples of pros who dedicated themselves to achieving supreme success. A must have if you plan to win. Re-read it to keep your goals fresh.

I did not want to believe that changing my diet and lifestyle would have such a huge impact on my osteoarthritis but was feeling so good after a month into this program I am a believer. It's tough but definitely worth it in the long run.

This book gave me hope and I was excited to get started. So instead of cobbling together all the supplements in her book myself, I decided to buy the supplement kit from Blum Health MD - the author’s company. It was really expensive at $775. Dr. Blum’s marketed this kit in her online store as:1. “….all the supplements that you need to follow the 90-Day program in Dr. Blum’s book”2. “we created this kit to make following the Healing Arthritis Program outlined in Dr. Blum’s book easy for you!”3. “This kit is perfect for following the Arthritis Protocol from Dr. Blum’s book, Healing Arthritis.”I was excited the day the kit arrived and then shocked when I unpacked it. It only had 50% (based on cost) of the supplements outlined in her book for Steps 1 & 2 and nothing at all for at Step 3…..so if you expected supplements for all 3 Steps you only got 20% of what you needed.When I complained they told me this kit wasn’t to follow the program in this book but was for a brand new Online Program. Really? Their advertising sure sounded like it was for the program in this book. I wrote 4 letters to push them to change their advertising so no one else would get duped. I also asked them to stand by their original advertising and send me the missing supplements. See a picture of the ad they are still running today.Just so you know if you want the supplements for all 3 Steps of the program in Dr. Susan Blum’s book it will cost you over $4,000. Stunned? Me too – and I thought $775 price tag was outrageous.Should it have been a huge red flag that she heavily peddled her own products in this book like other reviewers have mentioned? Before spending $775 I should have read the reviews on other sites about her and her medical practice. My experience makes me wonder if any of the content in this book is true.So far they have refused to honor the original advertising and send me the missing supplements. Seems like they can’t figure out what the right thing to do is…..as they have referred it to their lawyer. Good Grief!

I bought this book to educate myself about weddings, having been summoned as the maid of honour at my best friend's wedding, as well as being long-term engaged myself. This is an amazing guide, containing different ways of planning based on religious or secular leanings, etiquette and timelines. Ways to save money. How there's nothing wrong with having your best man/groomsmen be female or your maid of honor/bridesmaids male. And now I know what the heck a maid of honour does (spoiler: a LOT). Others have said that this book is not quite as useful for <$5k weddings, but that's what we plan on doing for ours and the information dispensed is still extremely relevant, though you have to be a little more creative and continue gathering ideas elsewhere. Otherwise, this is the only solid book you need to plan your wedding, and encourages you taking your own path in making the special day of you and your significant other (as well as any honeymoon) a great success.

It doesn't matter if you're planning a small wedding. She tells you how to cut down costs and all about contracts (which everyone will come across when planning their wedding). As the maid of honor, I now serve as the wedding coordinator (to save money) and this book is practically training me- teaching me to organize and prioritize lists to present to the bride.This makes the stress of planning plummet because she warns you about problems you might encounter and how to get around them.Some of these chapters include:cakes, stationery, lingerie, tents, insurance, port-a-potties, party favors, the toasts, photography, tipping, invitations, top music selections, guest list, guest accommodations, etiquette, different religions, wedding traditions, menu planning, catering, florists, legal (license requirements), gift tracking and types of thank-you notes, dinnerware, china patterns, shower ideas, rehearsal dinners, Bride & Groom fashions including what looks flattering on different body types, what to do weeks before the wedding, ring styles and their meaning, etc! (This is not even half of what is in this book).In the back of the book, it has a list of items where you can keep your budget notes, contacts pages for every element she goes over in the book (i.e. florist, make-up artist, transportation, music, hotels, etc) and lastly lots of pages for notes. So all the information that's important is all in one place and you don't have to keep scraps of paper in your purse.IT'S WONDERFUL. If you have no clue what you're doing, this helps you find where to start and leads you through every aspect of planning up until your big day and then some. Itsead of dreading all the work, this will get you excited about the small details because she gives you choices and samples. I love this book and to be honest I think it's a pretty cheap price for what this book is worth. PURE GOLD. Good luck brides!!

Half the battle with wedding planning is just learning to trust your gut and stop worrying so much. Somehow, regardless of how much I knew and understood this I always felt like I was missing or forgetting something. The perpetual planner that I am, this book served as a great tool to not only focus my efforts, but more importantly, calm my nerves.The text covers everything from picking a gown to laying a place-setting. From the 20 or so wedding based books that I accumulated, this has the most comprehensive planning calendar and to-do lists. I was able to amend them slightly given the smaller size of my wedding, but had a great starting block. At one point during our wedding planning I found my fiancé thumbing through the section on bands/music and dog-earring a few pages for later reference.The tips outlined are realistic and actionable - which to me means much more than high dollar celebrity gossip wedding news or overly laborious crafty DIY projects. The examples given outline several price points in most cases and value can be created by taking on task of `wedding planner' yourself.Through what can be a very trying (and exciting) process, this book was truly a blessing. I've recommended (and in many cases gifted) it to friends and family that are working towards their big day. Five stars all the way!

I bought tons of wedding books when I began planning and this one was by far my favorite. It explains different concepts with pictures such as different bouquet arrangements, trains, veils, etc. That way you know the terminology when considering what you want. It also gave me a lot of insight into etiquette and knowing what to do. This book really helped guide me and my mom when planning. Ours is loaded with sticky tabs that we placed for easy flip to. By far the best wedding book yet. It also gives you information about the history of wedding traditions and these were very interesting. Definitely an easy read to. I have passed it to friend after friend and they have loved it too!!! Definitely a must have!

This book is fantastic -- very practical and comprehensive. I got every popular wedding book out there from the library (including this one) and none of the others came close. I ended up buying it since it has such detailed advice on everything from invitation etiquette to the names of different train lengths to how to approach tipping (and a multitude in-between). Planning a wedding has a whole new lexicon of its own and this book has helped me navigate every element of it.
