I bought several You Choose and Interactive History books for my 9 year old son. After reading through the book with different scenarios (are you really going to eat the white berries? ) we read the book again together with me making different choices. I am proud to say I survived! There are several other books in this series that we plan to purchase. Good summer reading!

My grandson isn't an avid reader but he really likes the "can you survive" books.

Arrived in good condition. Interesting, thought provoking read.

More of a pamphlet than a book. Informative, accurate, and very short on a serious subject. A great appetizer. Storms just don't show up, dark clouds usually give warning. Life is no different.

My youngest daughter (age 10) is so into these books. She loves to make different choices within the books to see the various outcomes.

Overall I liked the book; it was interesting. There are a few points that I felt should be mentioned; there were numerous typos which could be fixed. There was one story where the female had been sexually abused by her stepfather and the author wrote that after she was placed back in there care her and step-father continued having sex. No; they were not having sex, she was being abused. Later it became consensual, but it was poorly worded here.This book is not overly graphic or gory. It does list what happened, but not in great detail.The case of Darlee Lynn Routier should not have been included in my opinion; there was other evidence to indicate that she may not have been the murdered, which was mentioned briefly. This book should be based on women who did kill people and it can be proved; just because she was convicted didn't make her guilty.Some of the cases were very brief, I would rather read longer and more in-depth cases. There could have been better organization to some of the stories. There was one where it mentioned the woman having two kids, but later it only mentioned the younger child as being murdered. There were a few cases where it seemed the details were forgotten halfway through the story.Overall, the book was pretty interesting. I like that it gave a certain person the last word in the story of the lady; sometimes it was a family member, a judge, prosecutor, etc. I liked the personal touch to the book. Photos were also included which I thought was another great personal touch. The book was interesting, some stories could have used more research, but it was still a decent read on my sick day.The longer stories were better and improved the quality of the book. I like that it talked about postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis with definitions of them and what common symptoms are of each mental illness. Too often people don't understand just how serious mental illnesses can be; not that that diminishes the tragedy at all, but I feel it is important to take into account.

I am a true crime fan aficionado and devour all books relating to this, but I must warn you, some of the things you will read here are a little more than disturbing. There a lot of things I can handle, but when I read about someone, especially parents and even more so, mothers, killing their children, it left me having a hard time going to sleep at night. I loved the police procedures employed to catching some of these monsters, but the panic and terror that some of these children experienced at the hands of someone who should have been their biggest protector is unfathomable.

Hell Hath No Fury is a fascinating look at female murderers. We tend to think of women as the nurturers so we are stunned when we hear of these cases. Some of the murders in this book you will instantly remember. Others, it was the first time I heard of them. A number of the cases in this book are mothers who kill their children for reasons that range from postpartum depression/psychosis to straight out narcissism. I think we find these types of murders the hardest to take. Children should be safe in their homes. Parents should be protectors. Too often they are not. I appreciate the authors bringing up postpartum depression/psychosis. I think this is a subject we all need to learn more about. Many women have postpartum depression after giving birth. What is it that makes the difference between those who get past the depression and recover and those who slip into psychosis? What factor is present that some women step over the line and kill their child? I have the most difficulty with those who kill multiple children over the course of a few years. How does this happen? Is it really postpartum psychosis? Does the mother never come out of it? I mean how do you kill your child, then get pregnant, give birth, kill that child and repeat yet again? Do you never think about what you did? Is there no remorse that prevents you from even taking that chance of getting pregnant again? There are so many unanswered questions or unsatisfactory ones that books such as this are necessary reading. They bring up what was down and make you question, wonder, think. They require a response, an accounting, research. History forgotten is history repeated. Then there are the others in here. Women who kill out of jealousy or for greed. We all deal with some form of jealousy at some point and even the rich sometimes want more yet we all are not out there committing murders, though, in reality, we are all capable. What is the difference? This is what makes true crime fascinating to me. Perhaps, to me, the most chilling chapter of this book is the last. Youth who murder. Are we becoming a more violent society? Are we losing our moral compass? The cases in this book make me wonder if our children, (society on the whole), are capable of feeling empathy. What needs to be done to prevent the violence from rising? This book will bring these questions to you. The cases are horrifying, chilling and even baffling. Excellent book to open up discussions on society and violence. If you think women who kill are a rarity or that they kill in less horrifying ways than a man, read this book.

I would recommend this book to any True Crime Reader! The author odd am excellent job researching each chapter's killer, the killing, the victims and the punishment handed down. There is no guessing what happened after the killing took place, the author lets the reader know immediately what happened in the courtroom. What sentence was handed down and if the killer was. Executed. Died.etc. this book keeps the readers interest from page one to the final page and then a extra chapter or two was added at the end about the Dating Game Killer!

These women are truly sick individuals! But it was a good read. I really loved the short chapters, I could read them quickly during breaks.

This was an interesting book. All stories I found were fascinating. Even the links and definitions were helpful in exploring the causes of why these women murdered and what their crimes meant. A definite thumbs up

The book was interesting and provided a brief history of a number of women who killed their children, spouses and others. To me the book would have been better if the descriptions of each case were longer and had greater detail. I wrestled with whether I should give the book 3 or four stars but I did not like the book, so three stars won.

Quick shipping, Beautiful calandar... opened it up & flipped to January to start adding in important dates... looked to the 16th which should have been a Friday, but was a Thursday instead... WTF??? Looked at cover & realized i bought LAST YEARS calandar. My fault, no more late night shopping sprees for me... I am not even going to send this one back... I am going to take out some of the pics, frame them & put them up on my walls. It would cost more to send it back (not that I didn't over spend on it in the first place... but I wanted a Scotland calandar.) so, lesson learned. my bad.

This is a beautiful calendar! Each month is graced with an extraordinary scene from Scotland; so real its as if you can step right into it! My office wall is so happy with it's new view! Highly recommended!

As a native Scot, the only calendar I order every year is this one. There's nothing like a little touch of Scotland on your wall, and the National Geographic edition never disappoints.

This calendar has beautiful views of Scotland in all its variety. My preference is for pictures of the wild and scenic places rather than the cities, but all of these views are beautiful, as one would expect from the National Geographic. The calendar blocks are depicted in clear dark type so they are easy to read from a distance. All very satisfactory!

Much better than some others I looked at. Hope to see these places some day.

I keep this calendar by my desk at work so that I can be motivated to save money for my Scotland trip. Just looking at the beautiful and tranquil scenery helps me get through my day.

I just finished reading it. And I am sitting here crying. I hated it. And I absolutely loved it.Now that you are utterly confused, read on if any one you love struggles with mental illness.I hated this book for a lot of reasons. I hated it because the characters in it bug the crap out of me. Worse than some of the more annoying people in my real life. I hated it because there are things stylistically I wanted from this author, because he is one of my favorite authors, and those things, stylistically, were not really there.I hate it because my greatest fear in life is of spiraling into uncontrollable mental illness, and the book puts you inside the head of someone who has a spiraling mental illness, and it does so with just an eerie amount of accuracy, and I don't want to be inside that spiral. It is too scary inside that spiral.And I hate this book most of all because some of the people I love most in life, people who truly own parts of my soul, live inside that spiral far too often, and it hurts deep down to be reminded of that. I don't like to read books that make me hurt. I usually avoid them at all costs. If I start one, and discover it is that kind of book, I don't often finish it.But this book is by John Green, with whom I have a relationship that is hard to explain. Because so much of the history minutiae I have memorized is from Crash Course videos, he is the voice inside my head when I think of history. He is much smarter than me, which I admire, and a phenomenal writer, which I envy. So I had to finish the book.I absolutely love this book because revealing your inner demons in such vivid reality is incredibly brave, and that makes him a hero in my eyes. John Green suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (which is not ever named in the book, but it is painted in horrifically detailed words throughout). People don't talk about mental illness enough, but here he is revealing his inmost self. And yes, it is him. He has been doing interviews about it and whatnot. The doctor the protagonist sees in the book is even similarly named to his own doctor, whom he thanks in the acknowledgements. John Green has a credibility with teenagers that is pretty hard to establish, and as a result, millions of teenagers are going to read this book. That might not seem a small thing, but it might mean that perhaps the world will understand mental illness just a little bit better. For that, John Green is my hero. Read at your own risk.And I am still crying.

No traditional review of this one…..I just can’t. I got it at school at 11:40 am on release day and finished it at 6:25 pm and it BROKE. MY. HEART.It’s the most powerful and open book about mental illness that I have read, and it’s required reading for everyone, but especially those who don’t understand the intensity of OCD and extreme anxiety. It is unlike any of his other work, but it’s still funny and it’s still so so sad, but it’s also Green’s OWN struggle.Go read his interview with NYT and try to tell me you didn’t want to cry.And if I see even ONE “but it’s not like TFIOS” whiny review…….don’t get me started.Read this book. Work through the discomfort. Honor his pain.

I love John Green. Heck, I have a quote from Looking For Alaska tattooed on my arm. But, if you have ever dealt with extreme OCD - don't read this! I dealt with diagnosed extreme OCD from ages 6-12. You are constantly in the girl's head. So, her obsessive thoughts become yours and there is no break from it. I was driving myself crazy and my OCD thoughts were increasing. So, if you are easily triggered, don't read this. If someone wants an insight to how the OCD mind works, it may be worth a read - but I couldn't even get into the story, let alone the incessant thoughts.

This book was polarizing for me. As a subject matter the view of mental illness from the inside out was so true to life, very powerful, and, yes, heartbreaking. I don't know if Green has personal experience himself, or with a loved one, or if he just researched impeccably - but it's a subject that definitely needs light shed on it to promote better empathy and understanding. So in that sense, five stars.************SPOILERS AHEAD***********However, that being said, I felt there wasn't much of a narrative. The whole trying to get the reward for the missing criminal, who just happens to be the father of a friend from long ago 'sad camp' just made no sense to me. The supporting characters didn't stand out all that much either (hence, why I can't even remember their names when I started the book last night and finished it this morning) and weren't terribly likable, either, nor were their motivations understandable.While I did appreciate that he didn't tie everything up with a happy little bow at the end, but was realistic in showing that, yes, mental illness is something you live with and fight (or don't) your entire life, but there are still moments of happiness, was great - but her rationale for Aza choosing to write *this* story down didn't seem to connect to her life as an adult. She chose this particular period of her life to write about because ... I was never really clear on that.Because Green's books are usually so well-written, I can't help but wonder if he did write from personal experience, and was maybe too close to the subject to write with the clear writer's eye he usually has.
