Ordered this for my grandchildren and it is just as cute as it was when I read it to their Daddy. I really appreciate that Little Golden Books has kept the classic stories in print.
The Saggy Baggy Elephant is such a cute book, about an elephant that has no idea what kind of animal she is. Sooki, the elephant makes her way through the jungle and encounters lots of creatures that are happy to take a bite out of her. She is even made fun of because of her big ears, saggy skin, and long nose. Then she sees some beautiful elephants and wants to be beautiful like them. Guess what, she is! My daughter (age 6) loved this little golden book. Perfect read for us! I used this in her elephant study in our homeschool just to have a great fun book about a cute elephant!
We bought a few of these golden books, but this was the only one with a weirdly stiff and wrong folding binding... the pages move, but the binding doesn't. It feels like it will break if I try to widen it. However, the story is cute with a good message. Not our favorite for sure, but my almost 4 yr old kid seems to like it.
This book is not the same as the original little golden book. The story is not the same and the quality of the book is not good. The pages are larger than the cover, so they stick out farther the cover. Also, the front cover of the book is glued on incorrectly, so that you can't really open the book and turn the pages correctly. I ordered 2 Little Golden Books, the other one is not as bad as this one, but I won't order anymore! Very cheaply made!!
I remember this book, even though it must be at least 60 years since I read it! I didn't think it would still be in print, but here it is, and with good reason: the message is timeless - don't be ashamed of who you are; don't listen to what others say about you. So I bought it and loved it all over again. I want to pass it on to my grandchildren, but not yet. I am still enjoying the story and the pictures. But once I do, maybe in another 60 years my grandchildren can pass it on to theirs!
I loved this book as a kid! This is a slightly different version so it doesn’t go 100 % along with the read aloud that is available online or if you still have the original record.

read it to my son 26 years ago and now to my grandson...classic story!
I love this book, had it as a kid and got it for my nephew. The little elephant finds his family in the end!
